Glass Replacement Just in Time for the New Year

The season of New Year’s resolutions is upon us. Make it a goal to improve the value of your home by replacing your worn or broken glass fixtures. Let the experts at Glass Express let you in on a few tips to tell if you are due for a glass replacement.

Rotting Frame

Not only do rotting frames look like they belong in a haunted house, they are also costing you more money. Chances are your rotting frames are worse than they appear. If they go unfixed, rotting frames can cause water and air to leak into your home.

Cracked or Broken Panes

If you have a broken pane, you’ll probably immediately realize your window needs replaced; but don’t go too long with a crack in your window. A small crack can lead to a big problem when it suddenly breaks in a bad storm or a slamming of a door. Be prepared and replace the glass before it is too late!

Broken Seals

Is your glass suddenly fogging up? If so, you might have a broken seal. There are other ways to fix a broken seal, but to ensure it is fixed, replacing the window is the best option.

Drafty Windows

If you feel a cool breeze anytime you pass your window, then chances are you have drafty windows. With winter just around the corner, you’ll want to make sure and get them replaced before it’s too cold! You’ll end up saving more on your energy bills, and not to mention it will be more comfortable in your home.

Don’t let your glass be the center of focus at your holiday party, call your experts at Glass Express for your next glass replacement!

Glass Repair for the DIYers’

We would love to repair windows and all of your glass repair needs. And we are good at it. Just check our testimonials. However, we know there are several “Do It Yourself” friends who just want to give it a try. So, for all you DIYs, here is some advice to help you with your next project.

When it comes to glass replacement, there are a few steps you need to take in order to successfully pull it off. Glass repair can go smoothly as long as you know what to do. It only takes some basic tools and a few simple steps and you’ll be on your way.

The first thing you will need to do is measure the window frame in which you need to replace the glass. The piece of glass you purchase needs to be a little bit smaller than the opening of the window in order to make room for the new window glass to fit. You need to measure from one inside edge of the window frame to the other inside edge of the window frame. You will then need to subtract anywhere from 1/16 to 1/18 inch in each direction.

After that you will need to have a piece of double-strength glass cut to the exact dimensions that are necessary in order for the glass to fit in the window frame. When purchasing the glazier’s clips or points you will need enough of them to be able to install one approximately every six inches around the window pane.

The next step is to make sure the glass window is sealed into the window frame. This will involve having to take a cord of compound, rolling it and pressing it into the joint of the frame.

You will then need to take a putty knife and smooth the compound around the joint. Once you have accomplished this step, you will then need to remove any extra compound from each side of the window frame.

Once the compound is dry, paint it to match the window frame.

If you follow these steps, your glass windows should be set. Good luck with your next glass repair project.

Choosing a Glass Replacement Company

Because windows are much more than just a piece of glass that allows you to see what is going on outside your home, it is important to choose the right glass replacement company. They are an integral part of the overall design, and can be used to add a real touch of elegance and sophistication to a property. They can also help cut your energy costs if they are properly sealed and maintained.

That is why it is essential to look after your windows, and why broken window glass replacement has to be taken care of sooner rather than later.

If you live in a large city like Indianapolis, IN, you are going to have a ton of different options when it comes time to choose a company to take care of your broken glass & window replacement needs. Picking the right company is an absolute must if you want the job done properly at the first time of asking. You will want to make sure that you hire a company that has plenty of experience behind them, and who will be able to take care of any glass and window issues that you may have.

You should also be on the lookout for a company that guarantees the work that they do. It doesn’t matter whether you are having a small, single pane replaced, or having a whole set of energy efficient windows put in to replace your existing windows, that work should all be guaranteed.

It’s also a good idea to look for a company that has some sort of emergency service available. Let’s face it, windows don’t always break at a time that is convenient, and leaving a broken window in place for an extended period of time does little to ensure the security of your home.

As we mentioned already, a beautiful set of windows can add a real touch of style to your home, but they can also add value. The curb appeal of your home instantly goes up when a beautiful new set of windows has been installed, plus you can add value to the home if you have the professional window replacement team install energy efficient windows such as double glazing.

Proper installation of a new window, or repair of an old, broken one, means that you still get to maintain the great look of your home, whilst blocking out the sound from outside, as well as any cold air that might otherwise seep inside.

Your windows are more valuable than you might ever have imagined, which is why you need to put them in the hands of a trusted professional whenever you need work done.
