Are You a Candidate for Window Replacement?

window-replacemnt

There’s a reason late summer and early fall are most people’s favorite time of the year, it’s gorgeous outside! It’s so great outside right now, many of us are inclined to let a little of the outside in. We’re washing the windows and opening them up to make sure the sunlight pours in and the breeze flows through! For those with high quality windows, this exercise brings pure joy. For those of you with one or more of the following problems, this exercise might be a source of frustration and further indication of the fact that you might be a candidate for window replacement or repair. If. . .

  • Your windows don’t open or close properly. Other than being a complete pain when you want to adjust them, this problem leads to other more dramatic performance problems. Windows that do not open and close properly are not keeping what you want in or what you want out. Meaning the transfer of air, bugs and insects, as well as safety issues all can be considered collateral damage of a poor functioning window.

  • Your home feels dark and dreary on the brightest of autumn days. Old windows can not only be dingy on the outside but they can also keep the inside of your home a bit gloomy as well. Now we’re not going to try and convince you that light isn’t coming in those old windows, of course it is, but new windows with low-impassivity coatings can help to broadcast more visible light and, most importantly, they control the transfer of heat reducing energy loss by 30%.

  • Your windows no longer keep the noise outside. Or did they ever? Do you even know what it’s like to live in a quiet house? The most immediate change customers of new windows notice is noise reduction. They can’t believe how quiet their house is!  If noise pollution has become noticeable inside your home, new windows might be part of your home’s solution.

  • You haven’t updated your homes windows to include functioning locks and improved tempered glass, you have another good reason to consider replacement. Safety in a home is worth every dollar, just ask someone who suffered a break-in or worse, a window glass accident on old windows that are too close to the floor without proper glass. Security locks and tempered glass that won’t shatter on impact for low windows come standard on every new window we replace.

By upgrading homes windows you’ll see improvements in functionality, energy efficiency, sound proofing, and safety. Features that pay their owner back and let more light into their lives.

Take the optimistic approach this Spring and while you’re dreaming of glasses that are half full, call us for new glass!

The Tempered Glass Advantage

Superior to regular glass by four to five times, tempered glass is the proverbial superman of glass. Also called strengthened glass, this durable surface is created through a chemical or heat treatment process whereby it is modified internally to withstand pressures that standard glass cannot handle.

Beautiful Tempered Glass Stairs

When broken, tempered glass fragments into small pieces sometimes called pebbles. Unlike regular glass which is known to shatter into jagged shards on impact, tempered glass breaks in a fragment pattern of blunt pebbles that are made to cling together. This anti-shatter quality is why tempered glass has safety listed as a major advantage.

Normally used in rear and side car windows, tempered glass has many commercial and residential uses as well. Any public setting where there is the risk of accidental impact or vandalism would benefit from tempered glass. From bus stops, to bank teller stations, to shopping malls, tempered glass is everywhere. Applications for a home include, but are not limited to, shower doors, table tops, large hanging mirrors, architectural glass doors, and custom shelving units. This versatile and beautiful glass is only limited by the designer’s creativity.

In addition to its unique break pattern, tempered glass is also thermally stable. This means tempered glass is less sensitive to changes in temperature and can withstand high heat. This makes tempered glass a good choice for places where the sun beats in for several hours a day, custom fireplaces, or cook-tops!

When stronger, safer, and thermally stable glass is what your project calls for; look no further than tempered glass from Glass Express Repair.

Is your kitchen ready for the spring? Here at Glass Express Inc. we have decided to bring you tips on how to prepare your kitchen.

  1. Start With the Freezer – You will first want to start by turning your freezer off by unplugging it and letting it defrost. Once it has defrosted, remove all contents of the freezer and start your cleaning. Clean the freezer with a solution of one tablespoon of baking soda per one quart of hot water.

How to Properly Clean Glass Windows

Cleaning glass windows – a task no one really likes to do but must be done. But how do you clean glass windows correctly and without streaks? Glass Express has the answers for you. Check out these tips we found on TLC on how to properly clean glass windows:

1. Use Distilled Water
Do you know what’s in your water? Neither do most people, but most times it doesn’t matter. When it comes to cleaning your windows, you should be concerned. Using hard water can leave streaks on your glass windows and mirrors.

2.  Vinegar can Help
Vinegar is one of those all-purpose ingredients that’s tough to live without. It’s as great on a salad as it is on your mirrors. Vinegar can do wonders for your windows and mirrors. A vinegar-water solution (50/50) work great. Just spray and wipe it away as you would with any other cleaner.

3. Minimize Suds
Cleaning with a bunch of suds will leave your glass full of streaks. If you are using vinegar, this shouldn’t be much of a problem; however, if you have a really dirty mirror and you want use soap to clean it, use very little.

4. Stay Away From Paper Towels
Paper towels should never be used to clean windows, mirrors, tabletops, or any type of glass at all. Paper towels leave behind dreadful, linty streaks. A microfiber cloth should be used instead.

Well why not start with the bathroom? Here at Glass Express, we decided to research the best spring cleaning tips for your bathroom. Enjoy!

Tip 1: Clean out the Cupboards
The first step is to clean out your cupboards. Take everything out of your cupboards and get organized. Throw away any expired lotion, sprays, deodorants, hair accessories, etc. Place everything back else in the cupboard, organized by product, then by products most used.

Tip 2: Get to Cleaning
Once you have cleaned the cupboards, it’s time to start cleaning the bathroom. It’s best to start with the bathtub and work your way around. A toothbrush should be used to clean the grout in the shower. Next clean the mirror, shower doors, and countertops.

Tip 3: Make it Fancy
After you have organized your cupboards and cleaned, it is now time to make your bathroom comfortable and relaxing. Start by lighting a candle and place it on the lid of the toilet or on the counter (make sure there are no towels near the flame). Next, add soft lighting. Bathroom lighting should not be extremely bright.
